Much snow on N facing slopes with many cornices. With Rod, Ron and Grant from Glen Affric up the stalkers path, then on to Mam Sodhail and Carn Eighe with two of the Leicester family while the guys went of to where I'd been yesterday. From Glen Affric YH - first ever trip for the team, resurrected in 2003. Repeated in 1989 and 1991 (both times walking out from the hostel with full pack). Date uncertain, via Mam Sodhail, return via Bealach Coire Gaidheil. Please quote the hill number and hill name. Follow the reverse of the 'Main Route' down to Bealach Bholla, over An Riabhachan and up to Sgurr na Lapaich. The peak has a distinctive pointy shape, making it a recognisable object in views from many of Scotland's mountains, including Càrn Eige and Ben Nevis. You'll reach a deer-fence below and find a gate. Mam Sodhail is a twin to the neighbouring Carn Eige, the two highest peaks north of the great glen. Second ascent, this time from Affric Lodge via the moorland ridge to Gleann nam Fiadh and up the SE ridge of Sron Garbh. All ways from Glen Affric go well and on a 'classic spring' day of big snow patches and high, billowing clouds these big Scottish mountains were a great place to be.
